PETRA Network: Bridging Research & Patient Care in Neuro-oncology

The PrEclinical and TRAnslational network for neuro-oncology research PETRA is a structuring action of the Canceropôle Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur created in 2023 and dedicated to neuro-oncology research.

It brings together academic, clinical and socio-economic actors from the Southern Region around an integrated approach "from bedside to bench, and from bench to bedside" in order to bridge research and patient care in Neuro-oncology.

Our Objective

Our Objective

Our Objective

By ensuring continuity between preclinical research and rapid transfer to the clinic, the PETRA network aims to accelerate therapeutic development to improve patient care in 3 main areas:

  • adult and pediatric primary brain tumors
  • brain metastases which are constantly increasing,
  • and the emerging issue of neurotoxicity due to oncological treatments (immunotherapies, long-term side effects of brain irradiation).

Our Network

Our Objective

Our Objective

The PETRA network is now a key player in neuro-oncology research and interacts in particular with the preclinical GoPA group of ANOCEF (Association des Neuro-OnCologues d’Expression Française), the South-ROCK (PEDIACRIEX Marseille-Lyon) and CHANGING (LABREX) consortia, both labeled by INCa, and the European actions COST Net4Brain and HORIZON-MSCA spaXio program.

The PETRA network also benefits from the support of associative partners such as the patient association ARTC-Sud (Association pour la Recherche sur les Tumeurs Cérébrales Sud) and the Fondation Flavien (committed to the fight against pediatric cancers), which are very involved in structuring, supporting and promoting innovative projects for the benefit of patients.

Our coordinating team & steering committee

The coordination team is supported by a steering committee in order to collectively define the strategic orientations and support the dynamics of the network.

Aurélie Tchoghandjian (CNRS, Marseille), scientific manager of the PETRATECH platform, Emeline Tabouret (APHM/AMU, Marseille), scientific manager of the PETRANSLA platform and Carole Colin (AMU, Marseille), project manager are supported by:

- fundamental researchers: Sonia Martial (CNRS, Nice), Eddy Pasquier (CNRS, Marseille), Vincent Picco (CSM, Monaco) and Thierry Virolle (INSERM, Nice)

- clinicians: Romain Appay (APHM/AMU, Marseille), Thomas Graillon (APHM/AMU, Marseille) and Laëtitia Padovani (APHM/AMU, Marseille)

- and two patient associations: Dominique Figarella-Branger / Dominique David (ARTC Sud, Marseille-Nice) and Denis Maccario (Fondation Flavien, Monaco).
